Overview: University of Makeup

Having been a lover of all things beauty related, one of my overall goals was to become a professional certified makeup artist. As I began searching for any type of online education, it occurred to me that maybe I should Google for fun about an online makeup school since that is what my passion has always been. Sure enough, I found University of Makeup & instantly fell in love with their curriculum.

Online Course

Throughout the course, you receive an ebook that you study through & at the end of each chapter there is a corresponding video tutorial. The course not only goes into the basics of beauty, but also goes in depth of face shapes, contouring, color theory, eye shapes & colors, history of makeup & so much more. There are about 77 video tutorials & 55 chapters in their ebook.

Pricing

One huge setback for a lot of people I know trying to get into makeup artistry is money. I can reassure you that this school is a completely affordable alternative & at the most is $17 every month for about a year. It's definitely been something I've had to make sacrifices for, but totally affordable compared to many other schools.

Makeup Kit

You have an option to buy the University of Makeup's makeup kit they use in all of their tutorials, but I did not opt in to purchasing it. It's price is $374 & couldn't afford it at the time. However, if you plan on going into freelance artistry, I do encourage you to look into it. I had such a vast amount of makeup products that I didn't necessarily need the kit to practice. When it comes to recreating the makeup looks in order to pass the school however, it is definitely tricky to get the same colors for certain tutorials.

Testing

At the end of studying your ebook, you are asked to take an online test & also submit 10 looks you must do absolutely precise in accordance to the look they tell you to recreate. The online test for me personally was easy, because I took a lot of notes. As I went through the process of submitting looks, I received feedback from the actual artist that created University of Makeup. She's very thorough & really explains the different areas you should work on. The looks that you submit are not just for the purpose of you being able to mimic exactly was is asked, but is also to identify any areas you should be keen on in order to be fully confident in your ability to do makeup.

Receiving Certification

If you successfully pass all 10 of your makeup looks & pass your online test, you will receive an email back with your certificate attached. The hard copy of my certificate came in the mail yesterday & I couldn't have felt more accomplished.

In conclusion, I received much knowledge out of this school. A big point I want to hit across is that you never truly ever know all there is about makeup because it's always changing- that's why it's such an interesting career! If you're big on beauty & makeup, then I completely believe becoming certified is a great idea for you!

Overall, I give this school two thumbs up & want to encourage all of you to consider expanding your horizons in makeup artistry. If you have absolutely ANY other questions about University of Makeup, please leave questions below! Love you all & wish you the best of luck!

Stay balm-

Hannah Ruth
